Oh Yeah? Hmm… Okay

No updates for a while due to various circumstances. Thyroid biopsy was done a little over a week ago, which wasn’t as bad as I expected – but also more serious than I expected. πŸ€”πŸ‘¨πŸ»β€βš•οΈ Other than the doctor using a needle rather than actually cutting me open, it was actually a real deal procedure. Hooked up to monitors, in my gown, rolled from the waiting room to the procedure room… and then a couple nurses or technicians dealing with the ultrasound and instruments, while the doctor repeatedly jabbed me in the neck with a thicker-than-I’d-have-preferred needle. πŸ˜―πŸ’‰ It took three different “pokes” to get enough cells for the tests that they needed to run, but the folks were all great, and always spoke in a very calming way that made it not nearly as anxiety inducing as it could have been.

Then on Monday I made it to my first of four dentist appointments. 😳 Rather than attack my whole mouf at once, they figured it would be easier on my face (and at least psychologically, on my wallet) if we split up the work on my teefs. So that appointment was a deep cleaning on the bottom, and then a gum line filling on one of the right rear molars. A little uncomfortable since they had to use a tool to push my gums down until the filling was complete, but I was good and numb so it didn’t really hurt until much later into the day.

Things have been hit and miss with my sciatic issue. Some days it’s almost unnoticeable, and then others there’s a continuous mild pain with some sharp bursts that also come with some weakness. πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™‚οΈ I’ve got a followup appointment with my chiropractor in the first week of next month, and I guess I’m still gonna go see him – just so I can update him in case I have my doctor doctor contact him for my info, when I ask her to look into this problem for me through whatever avenue she thinks might help.

And then my biopsy results… they came back a day sooner than I was expecting, and I actually got the call from the specialist on my way home from the dentist. πŸ˜’ They can’t really tell you anything definite from a small sample like that, so he says surgery is in my future. 😐 I actually had an appointment with him earlier yesterday, and I left feeling about as optimistic as possible when talking about this sort of thing. Like I had already been doing myself, he pointed out many reasons that I should feel far more optimistic than the average person when it comes to this – especially noting that sometimes people have thyroid defects that grow for years and years, and are never even discovered until they’ve grown to a size where it interferes with a person’s swallowing or breathing. 😧

There’s way too much to the situation to get into real detail, but I’ll just say that his “matter of fact” way (in a good way) of talking about the surgery, the treatment, the positive results that he expects and has gotten many times before in others… it helped provide a little ease to a decidedly uneasy thing to think about. So, it’ll come, we’ll hope for the best, and if that isn’t enough, we’ll just face whatever the next thing is after that. I think that things will be fine, even if not on the first try.

Just Keep Swimming

I’d say I’m at about 80% with my walking right now. 😐 I’ve still got a couple more appointments with Dr Taulbee, then what I’m hoping is my final visit at his office with a physical therapist to complete my evaluation and give me some “homework” to keep things moving in the right direction. Blood panels came back okay, so whatever caused the swelling around my spine is apparently gone. πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™‚οΈ I dunno… I’ve got so much medical shit going on right now, my brain is kinda refusing to care about or retain the details as long as things are “normal” as they say. πŸ˜’

I had to postpone my monthly WC doctor appointment so I could get in at the new dentist yesterday, where I’m getting ready to start catching up on everything that I’ve neglected for many years now. 😬 I’ve had a filling here and there, and one toof pulled, but we’re actually setting up a plan to take care of everything that needs attention now, before it gets too late. 😳 It’s going to be three different big-ish appointments, where they are gonna focus on one quarter of my mouf at a time. The only toof that’s gonna have to go (at least as it stands right now) is my left lower wisdom, which has chipped and needed to come out anyway. They think everything else should be okay with a bit of fiddlin’ and updating.

I’ve literally had some sort of appointment or testing done every other day for the past three weeks, and it’s basically gonna be the same for at least another two. 😯 It’s my own fault… one, for not keeping up on things I should have kept up on over the years, and two, because I decided to jump back in and start getting everything back up to date all at once. 🀨 When I started scheduling things, having my back suddenly go fucked wasn’t part of the equation, but I suppose if it was gonna happen it might as well be when I’m in “Alright, let’s do this.” mode with the rest of it. Thank gawd that I’ve got both the time and finances to be able to do this though… I know a lot of people aren’t as fortunate in both of those areas.

The only thing I’m kinda nervous about is my upcoming appointment with the ENT, since my PCP referred me to him so that he can order a biopsy on my thyroid. πŸ˜₯ The ultrasound confirmed that it’s a “complex” mass (aka the bad kind) and that it has grown since it was first spotted during an MRI of my spinal fusion site. 😟 So, that’s not great news, but I’m doing my best to put it all out of my mind. Whether it’s my regular doctor, my WC doctor, the chiropractor, the dentist, or this guy… until I get whatever “news” it is that they have to give me, my brain has put up a firewall. Like Nope. Not interested in bouncing this around until we actually know something.” or whatever… 😏

And hey, if they say I’m dying at least I won’t have to blow all that money at the dentist, amiright? πŸ˜„

Incremental Progress

It’s been a while since I’ve had to work… but all of these doctors, specialists, tests, and referrals that I’m dealing with right now – I can’t imagine how someone with a job would be able to do hardly any of it. Since last Friday, there’s only been one weekday where I didn’t have to be out and doing something related to my current medical situation. πŸ˜’

Like I told my dad though… I know that this is just what people have to do to keep their motors running, but I’m just having a hard time adjusting to needing all of the maintenance. I mean, my neck and shoulder have been fucked for a decade, yeah, but other than that I’ve been mostly healthy and capable. 😐 So suddenly dealing with multiple new medical things, plus adding dentist stuff on top of it… having it consume so much time on so many days… it’s just hard for me to get used to it when I’m feeling miserable, considering that my schedule essentially used to be blank prior to all this.

It really is all headed in the right direction though. And I appreciate that my doctor’s office calls me quite often, nudging me to do whatever it is that they’ve wanted me to do, making sure I’m making the appointments with the specialists. 😏 I actually need that, since my fucked back has been the only thing constantly in my brain for a while now.

Cassi came down yesterday to help me out, which I really appreciated. Sitting here in the messy house was twitching me out, so she came down and picked up the living room, vacuumed, took the trash buggy out to the curb, did some laundry… just stuff to make my brain a little happier, and so I didn’t have to push myself too hard too soon. I was also able to see Dez the other day, by stopping by her job after my ultrasound and hoping that she might be getting off work… that way I wouldn’t have to try and walk inside. (And I probably wouldn’t have, because it’s embarrassing, the way I have to move in order to not hurt.)

We sat in the parking lot and talked for almost a half hour, and I gave her her birthday/graduation present along with a letter that I had written her in case we didn’t get to talk when I dropped it off. 😊 She told me all about the past couple of months, and she was so happy with her present. I think it wasn’t even so much about what it was, but more that even though I’ve been kinda “gone” lately – I was still thinking about her, being proud of what she’s accomplished, and wanted to give her something nice to hopefully brighten her day. πŸ™‚ But yeah… it was nice seeing her again… she’s a great kid.

Staying Busy

I woke up early this morning so I could go up to Columbus and help Leona out with a ride to one of her appointments. No other family was available, and this particular appointment was all the way on the opposite side of town – and, without putting all her business out there, taking a bus with the unwashed masses and trying to navigate her way there while doubling the time required to do so… that just wasn’t really an option. Silver lining, it took long enough that I was able to see Cassi after she got off work, right before I had to take off to make it to my dentist appointment on time.

  1. Two dumb birds, risking death for whatever it was they were doing.
  2. Many dumb birds, risking death because lounging in the road is fun.
  3. Dire-looking rollover accident near one of the bridges on the bypass.
  4. Semi car transport jams on its brakes and smokes out all of I-70 eastbound.
  5. How do you rear-end a car that hard on the freeway?

I’m really happy with how things went at the dentist. πŸ™‚ My teefs aren’t in the greatest shape, but I didn’t get even a hint of “Shame on you for not taking care of your mouf!” from anyone in their office. πŸ™Š It was an emergency appointment, so it was strictly for my single damaged toof, but we went ahead and set up another date for a cleaning, exam, x-rays, with a little time afterwards also scheduled for the fillings I’ll likely need.

The fix that they had to do was actually at the top of one of my upper teefs, at the gum line, so I was nervous that it would be too difficult to bother saving it. 😯 But she drilled it out, the other girl carefully glopped the filler composite and hardened it layer by layer, and now you can’t even tell that it was damaged. 🀩 (I told them just to match the color that the toof is now, because it kinda just “is what it is” by this point… heh…)

Feels good to get back to a dentist to get things started again. Like I told her, I’m not worried about looking pretty, because that ship has sailed, but I’d still like to keep as many of my original teefs as possible for as long as possible. Oh, and it didn’t hurt at all during the process… but wow… once I got home and the numbness wore off… holy cow. 😣 And to top it off, the pain moved from my mouf to behind my damn eyeball. Looking forward to going to sleep tonight and being a lazy bum tomorrow.

Toof

After my appointment yesterday I went up to Columbus to hang out with Cassi for a bit. πŸ™‚ It was Red White & Boom night, but Cassi just finished her first week of work at the new Tim’s location, so I wanted to go up and hear all about it in person rather than random texts back and forth like we’ve been doing all week. πŸ©β˜•πŸ‘©πŸ»β€πŸ’Ό I just took a path that steered clear of downtown and then headed back home before dark, so I missed any of the traffic problems that go along with the event.

But while I was up there, I noticed that at some point during the day I had broken a tooth. 😧 Not broken broken, but cracked – with a bit of the surface having chipped off near the top. πŸ˜₯ Good times, eh? I mean, I guess I’m lucky that it didn’t break completely, and that it doesn’t hurt… but ugh… going to the dentist was not in my immediate plans. πŸ˜’ It’s early AM right now, so I know it’s likely I’ll be sleeping in late (once I actually fall asleep, hopefully…) but when I wake up I’ll have to call a few local dentists to see which (if any) can get me in to fix it, or at least put something over it until they can. 😣

I should be able to baby it tonight, tomorrow, and maybe the next day… I just have to be careful not to forget about it and accidentally eat something crunchy. Because I have a feeling that the crunching sound would come from myΒ toof. 😲😭 It should be fine though… I’ve already found a couple places online that claim to offer same or next day service on an emergency basis. Wish me luck.

Adulting

Spent most of the day yesterday dealing with “responsibility” stuff, since the “work” portion of my week got squeezed down to two days… well, one day, if you take into consideration the day that I had to potato due to recovering from the trip. 😏 So yeah, Friday was all about estate stuff, workers comp stuff, calls to those two different attorneys, as well as another quite unproductive call to the IRS. πŸ˜’

It seems the stuff regarding my workers comp claim is coming to a head, where I’ll either be going to common pleas court in Franklin county soon or I’ll be thinking harder about accepting a settlement. Those aren’t the only two options, but those are the ones that could provide some finality one way or the other. It’s amazing though, considering that I haven’t even been a squeaky wheel (other than not giving up on my case), that my former employer is actually taking The Industrial Commission of Ohio to court over my case – claiming that many of the rulings that they’ve made in my favor have actually been done incorrectly and against the IC’s and BWC’s own rules.

And then with my aunt’s estate, the only thing that’s holding us up right now is the IRS… waiting on her 2015/2016 tax returns to be processed. Well, 2016 actually went through without a hitch, but for some reason they flagged 2015 and are requiring an obscene amount of information before they will verify that I’m the person that is supposed to be handling this. 😠 I can tell them anything they want to know about those two years’ returns, but no… they want individual bits of information off of individual earnings forms that were used to calculate her 2014 return. Oy…

I may have had that information at one point, but well over a year after this process started, those papers are long gone. I mean, if I saved every record and form that my aunt had saved I’d lose a room of my house. So yeah, my bad for tossing stuff like that which I never thought I’d need again, but damn… even when I told the lady that I could answer nearly any other question that they’d wanna ask me about anything since her death – she couldn’t/wouldn’t budge, since her job says they require “A, B, and C” to verify my identity, so I have to provide “A, B, and C.” πŸ˜’ So yeah, it’s a bit of a stalemate right now, but I’ve got an idea that I put to my estate lawyer in a message left on his phone.

So, another call to the IRS, another couple of calls to the estate lawyer, another call and conversation about court cases and settlement possibilities with one of my workers comp attorneys… for someone who experiences phone calls akin to the feeling that one gets while licking a 9v battery… yeah, it was a shit day. 😏 And I didn’t even get to call the oral surgeon to discuss my two remaining wisdom teeth that need to be removed. Yeah, I’m whining a bit… heh… whatever.
