MS Flight Simulator 2020

When I was in my late teens, one of the first things that got me interested in PC gaming (after “growing up Commodore” with a VIC-20, C64, and various Amiga computers) were the advertisements I’d see in the PC magazines for various flight simulators. Because on those pages, the screenshots from some of those flight sims made them look potentially amazing. But of course in the early 1990s, no matter how good of a computer you had, there weren’t really any flight sims that looked or performed as you’d really want.

I’m not gonna ramble much… yet… so I’ll just let this guy’s video speak for itself. Almost 30 years later, and it looks like there’s finally a flight simulator coming out that will not only amaze folks like me – but which also even impresses the actual airline pilots who do this shit for a living. This is just one of many videos posted by the select few that were invited to Microsoft’s preview event a couple of weeks ago.

If there ends up being an XBOX One version, even though it would likely be watered-down, it might actually give me a reason to turn it on and start playing games again. It’s crazy how long it’s been since I’ve really cared about console gaming, even with some decent titles sitting here waiting for me. With all the other stuff going on over the past couple of years, it’s just kinda slipped away from me… but this thing looks gorgeous.

Insta360 One Tests

These videos were created with the original Insta360 One, which is their entry level 360 degree camera. They’ve since come out with the One X, although I haven’t bothered learning what more it can do – since I’ve barely used this guy, and it obviously produces some awesome results as is. But I’ll post both of the “you control it” videos, so you can click and drag with your mouse (if on a PC or laptop) or you can change the view with your finger (or possibly by just moving your phone around like a “viewfinder”) if you’re on a phone. Best way is to open the video in YouTube and turn your phone sideways, giving you a full screen, fully controllable view.

(Of course change the resolution sittings to as high as your device will allow for the best results.)

Like I said, all I did for these couple of test videos with plunk the camera down on the top of my car with a magnet-base selfie stick and then click record. The “guided” vidoes… those had to be played around with inside the app, giving the video manually added “focus points” where the view would change based on what areas I told it to “look at” during the recording. That’s the thing with this camera, pretty much all of the “neat stuff” is applied after the original recording is done – so you could make several different versions, all functioning or appearing in their own unique way, but based on the one original recording session. Full control videos and 16:9 “focus point” videos are just the tip of the iceberg. Some day I’ll get around to pushing the limits with all the different modes and effects, even if just as another quick test like these.

Working The Kinks Out

It seems that, for a change, I did exactly what I needed to do to get myself feeling better from yesterday. 😳 Before I even started The Walking Dead last night I raised shields, cut off communications, and let things remain that way until half way through the day today. I only slept about 6 hours, but walking up to the sun rising, as well as to a phone that I had no intention of checking… it’s like the minimal stress of wondering what my phone will want from me is sometimes enough to tip me to the bad side, where whatever I’m trying to shake will remain. 😐 More of my weirdness, I suppose.

And it’s not like I’m in high demand or something… but it just helped everything about how I was feeling yesterday, to not be beholden to my phone or anyone wanting me for anything through it. (Make sentences bad, structure coming good tonight is not. 😅) And as they day progressed, even though I used the laptop to dick around on Twitter, I started feeling better. 🙂 As I was watching Justice League I started straightening the living room. As I watched some news I went ahead and ran the vacuum. And then before I started some YouTube videos about scanner/radio frequencies, 🤓 I took all the baskets of dirty clothes down to the basement and started a couple loads. All of that before I even thought about looking at my phone. 😀

When I did, I was relieved to see that I only had a couple messages waiting for me, and nothing on my social media of any importance. The world went on just fine without me. SHIT. I do think I remember seeing a call notice though.

I guess I better check that now… 😅   ** pause while listening to voice mail **

Well I have absolutely no idea what the hell that was all about. Some fella left a message, and he knew my first name, saying that he was from Lowe’s installation and that he was calling about my “overnight cooktop” (I think) and wanted me to give him a call back to let him know if I’d be home. Heh… no idea. I guess I’ll find out tomorrow, but I can tell you right now the last thing I’m interested in is an overnight cooktop.

But anyway… all that’s left for me to do today is get these shirts onto hangers and up in the closet, and the towels onto the shelf into the bathroom and I’m golden. 😎 Just gonna take that for what it’s worth, and I’ll worry about tomorrow when tomorrow gets here. I’m just happy that I figured out what it took to get me through this day.
